Our August meeting moves to Chesterland. Past meetings have been held in Bainbridge; we’re trying a more central location to see whether it makes attendance easier for more of our members.

Make a plan to vote
Less than three months to go. Here are the dates you need.
| Sept 18 | Military and overseas absentee voting begins (UOCAVA) |

| Oct 5 | Deadline to register to vote. Boards of elections and the Secretary of State’s office are open until 9:00 p.m. |
| Oct 6 | Early in-person voting begins, and absentee voting by mail begins |
| Oct 27 | Absentee ballot applications must be received by your board of elections by 8:30 p.m. |
| Nov 3 | Election Day. Polls open 6:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Voted absentee ballots must be received by your board of elections by 7:30 p.m. |
| Nov 7 | Military and overseas absentee ballots must be received by mail by boards of elections to be counted |
UOCAVA is the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act — the federal law that guarantees absentee voting rights to active-duty military members, their families, and U.S. citizens living abroad. Those voters get an earlier start date and a later return deadline than everyone else.

The rules changed — please read this
A postmark is no longer enough
Ohio’s four-day grace period for mailed absentee ballots is gone. Your voted absentee ballot must be in the hands of your board of elections by 7:30 p.m. on November 3 or it will not count.
If you vote by mail, mail it early — or hand-deliver it to your county board of elections drop box. Do not return an absentee ballot to your neighborhood polling place. It will not be counted.
